🌐STORY AND GENERAL CONCEPTS

In this section, you will become familiar with Shadow Depths, its story, and its general concepts.

NBM Shadow Depths is a game released by the NBM team in July 2023. The game is set in Arcadia, a unique stellar system containing 10 planets, 13 moons, a giant asteroid belt, unexpected life forms, and more than 400 distinctive environments.

In 2067, the first space explorers discovered deep caves on the surface of several Arcadian planets. These caves potentially housed large deposits of Fusium, Actium, Minium, and Constructium, four extremely valuable resources unique to the Arcadian system. However, after entering the caves, many units and miners never returned. The Arcadian Council, the entity responsible for regulating Arcadian activities, banned the exploration of any type of cave until further notice.

At the end of the year 2067, well aware that the Arcadian caves could contain a large number of easily extractable resources, the Corporate Leaders exerted pressure on the Arcadian Council to re-authorize underground explorations.

In early 2068, to address this issue while ensuring the safety of the first Arcadian pioneers, the Council decided to revisit an interesting but controversial technology: the AHC, also known as Advanced Human Cloning.

Indeed, in the year 2030, significant breakthroughs in genetics and neurology allowed scientists to create perfectly functional replicas of any type of human being. Initially intended to be kept as incubators for spare organs, scientists discovered that these clones were self-aware and endowed with cognitive functions similar to their natural counterparts. Upon this realization, an ethics committee, tasked with assessing the impact of this practice, determined that every clone inherently possessed an immutable right to live. This decision exacerbated existing issues such as overcrowding and identity theft. By the end of 2031, despite the technological success of the AHC program, the production of new clones was prohibited. The existing clones were recognized as non-natural twins, and the AHC program was officially dismantled on December 26, 2031.

In 2068, advanced technologies and a better understanding of human anatomy prompted Arcadian scientists to revisit the AHC program to develop a safe method for exploring Arcadian caves. Having learned from past mistakes, these scientists began developing a new generation of clones that could: i) be easily produced, ii) expire after a few weeks, thus preventing ethical issues like identity theft or overcrowding, iii) be easily enhanced, and iv) be remotely controlled to ensure the safety of their hosts..

Following rigorous testing, the Arcadian Council unveiled the initial version of its clones in July 2069. Subsequently, any Corporate Leader equipped with a cloning station gained the ability to create their own clones, enabling exploration of Arcadian caves for resource collection, ingredient gathering, and other tasks.
